Research title for the award: Development of value-added products process from palm oil waste and monitoring of bacterial indicators for environmental assessment towards sustainable palm oil industry

 Dr. Norhayati Ramli  - Winner of DaSilva Award 2020Norhayati Ramli is an Associate Professor at the Department of Bioprocess Technology, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, UPM. Her researches are focused on the development of bioindicator for pollution monitoring and the creation of value-added products and bio-based chemicals from waste, particularly from palm oil industry. She has secured multiple national and international matching grants, including the networking projects with industries and community. Her achievements have been recognised both locally and internationally and she served as invited and keynote speaker several times in local and international conferences. To date, she has published more than 20 papers indexed by JCR with almost 70% of them in Q1/Q2 journals.

 

[Message as a prize winner]

I would like to thank the Society for Biotechnology, Japan (SBJ) for recognizing my achievements and selecting me as the winner for DaSilva Award 2020. This award means the world to me. I am thankful and blessed for the support I received from the members of Environmental Biotechnology Research Group, UPM and the collaborators from Japan. Many thanks to Prof. Dr. Kenji Sakai and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yukihiro Tashiro for nominating me for this award. I am looking forward to working together with SBJ in the future and to further develop networking and collaborations with researchers all over Asia.
