Important Notice: Cancellation of the 72nd SBJ Meeting

After careful consideration of the current circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 virus, the Society for Biotechnology, Japan (“SBJ”) Board of Directors and the Meeting Organizing Committee decided not to conduct the 72nd SBJ Meeting, originally scheduled for September 2-4, 2020 in Sendai, Miyagi.

Although on-site activities and presentations will be cancelled, we are considering to hold award lectures and symposium online. Please continue to check our website for details and updates.

第72回日本生物工学会大会（2020）は、2020年9月2日（水）～9月4日（金）東北大学川内北キャンパスにおいて開催の予定で準備を進めてまいりました。しかしながら、新型コロナウイルス感染拡大の影響は大きく、この時期に参加者の多いイベントを開催することは難しいと考えられます。また、4月に全国に発せられました緊急事態宣言を受け、日本中の教育・研究機関や企業などの活動が大きな制限を受けております。

このような状況を鑑み、開催について実行委員会、理事会で真剣に議論した結果、本年度の現地での大会の開催は難しいと判断しました。また、Webツールによる開催の可能性も検討しましたが、本年度は見送ることとしました。準備を進めてまいりました大会実行委員会としては誠に残念ではありますが、様々な状況を分析した結果、この結論に至りました。

発表や参加を予定されていた皆様には、誠に申し訳なく存じますが、このような状況をご理解の上、ご了承いただけますようお願いいたします。これに伴い、予定していた一般講演、ランチョンセミナー、企画展示の申込みに関するWebサイトを閉じさせていただきます。

なお、本年度大会は不開催といたしますが、学会各賞の受賞講演および企画されているシンポジウムについては、大会とは異なる形でWeb開催を検討しております。また、大会が学生の研究発表の機会でもあることから、支部や研究部会において大会とは異なる形での発表会の開催を検討していただければと考えております。

今後、各種イベントの開催については、学会のホームページを通じてお知らせいたしますので、引き続きご確認いただきますようお願いいたします。

Due to the rapidly developing situation regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we have decided to change the schedule for abstract submission and advance registration for the 72nd Annual Meeting of the Society for Biotechnology, Japan (SBJ).

Abstract Submission: Wednesday, May 13 to Thursday, June 11, 2020 (JST)
Advance Registration: Wednesday May 13 to Friday, July 17, 2020 at 17:00 (JST)

Please note that due to this change, the meeting abstracts may be provided only in PDF format.
To date, the 72nd SBJ meeting will be held from September 2-4, 2020, in Sendai. However, details may be subject to change depending on the further situation.

第72回日本生物工学会大会（2020）は2020年9月2日（水）～9月4日（金）東北大学川内北キャンパスにおいて開催の予定です。しかしながら、ご承知の通り新型コロナウイルス感染拡大の影響は日に日に厳しくなっております。このような状況を鑑みまして、講演の申し込み期間を5月13日（水）～6月11日（木）に変更いたしました。4月の申し込みに向けてご準備いただいていた方には申し訳ありませんが、今しばらくお待ちいただきますようお願いします。

この講演申し込み期間変更に伴って、本大会の要旨集が通常の年の製本の形式とは異なりpdfファイルでの配布になる可能性があることをご承知おきください。

なお、コロナウイルスの感染拡大については、現状、見通しが立たない状況であることから、引き続き、開催の有無、方法について検討し、ホームページにてお知らせしますので、ご確認いただきますようお願いいたします。

Important Notice: Abstract submission period and registration for the banquet

The 72nd Annual Meeting of the Society for Biotechnology, Japan is scheduled to take place at Kawauchi-Kita Campus, Tohoku University from September 2–4, 2020. At present, preparations are underway to hold the meeting in the usual way. The abstract submission site will open on April 8. We hope many prospective participants submit an abstract by noon on May 13, 2020.

Regarding the banquet, we will decide later depending on the COVID 19 situation. If the banquet takes place, we will inform by email and other means in the middle of June 2020.

Please note that the way to hold the event is subject to change according to the situation.
